About me *

(* Mick... you know, the mick in micksmedia! The friendly face behind the corporate exterior!!)

This is always the most cringy part of a website for me, and admittedly one of the main reasons that this site has been so long in the making... what to write... what to write...!?

So I'll start with the basics. I was born in Cork in 1978 where I lived for a Cobh 1982few years in Cobh. It was lovely down there. After we moved to Dublin we used to spend the summer down there, myself and my two brothers spent our days making treehouses, practicing cursing, catching crabs & eels on the beach and generally just legging it around like mad eegits. Apparently I was quite a peaceful kid (pre teen of course) and this pic (taken in 1982 by my dad) best sums up my early years. I was generally on my own buzz messing around... with a grand auld head of hair but quite an odd Corkman's bellybutton!

I studied four years in Trinity College Dublin where I got my Degree in ICT. It was during college I met my lovely girlfriend Dee who I've been seeing for 8 years now! When I left college I went to work in an aquarium shop for a while to wind down after college. I had never kept fish before but soon became obsessed . Bananas Anyway after the fish shop closed down and I got a bit of experience in web development in eumom.com, we packed it all up, quit our jobs, gave up our flat, and went off travelling around South East Asia; Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos. We spent about 5 months away in total and the highlight was the discovery that in Cambodia they have some really really small bananas but few barber shops!

So we reluctantly came home for our travels. I got a job in steintravel in Camden street where I worked for nearly 2 years. In the meantime we got mortgage approval and bought a cute little bungalow in fairview(ish!). Once the mortgage approval came through I left my job to live the dream.. to work from home.

Save the robotsAt the beginning business was slow enough so I decided to do something worthwhile and signed up as a volunteer to work in the Ark in Temple Bar, a cultural center for children. Sounds both charitable and noble, doesnt it? Okay, okay I'll be honest and say that the main reason for volunteering was the they were running a summer long project called save the robots. Did I mention that I had a collection of toy robots? No? Probably for the best! Anyway I was surprised how much I loved the work. The kids were great fun and there's something so fulfilling about helping out only to get a smile in return. It puts a spring in your step.

Then I got busy, thankfully, and gave up the volunteer work to work on projects for Eircom and AIB, among others. I'm being trained up by my brother in the finer points of photography and might consider moving more towards that direction in the coming years. Until then, I'll still be hanging around in my little office creating little masterpieces!!
